Mohammad Isiafan

Humanizing Mohammad: The man we lost to Akron Police on December 15, 2019.

Mohammad was blessed with an engineering mind and would frustrate his mother during his childhood in Jordan, tearing all his toys apart and then figuring out how to put them back together. His father was more forgiving, and insisted his son would one day work with auto mechanics. Mohammad would later move to the U.S. and earn his certifications and a masters degree in auto mechanics and engineering along with becoming an instructor at his school.  He was a master mechanic through and through. We had plans on opening a mechanic shop because so many people relied on him for quality auto work at a great price. We were going to call it Mo’s Honest Auto because nobody ever had a complaint about his work. Something unheard of in the auto mechanics business.

Mohammad’s greatest pride was his daughter, whom he adored. He recently took her to her first driving lesson, and was excited about helping her in this part of her transition into adulthood. He loved to take credit for being the one to teach her how to drive. He never got to see her get her license or graduate high school or start college.   Everything Mohammad did was with his daughter in mind.

Though Mo and I had divorced, people would regularly remark on how much better our relationship seemed after the break-up. We always promised each other we would continue to be friends and the best parents we could. We kept to that.  When the chips were down, married or not, Mohammad and I still had each other’s backs. And I still have his to this day. That is why I have been putting his message out there. He has been silenced. So I have to carry on and share his story to bring accountability for his wrongful death at the hands of the police. I know he would do the same for me.

The last time I saw Mohammed alive was the 9 year anniversary of our divorce, not even a week before he died. He told me then, “Even though we are divorced you will always be my one and only wife”. He re proposed to me and gave me a ring. At the time, I had no idea how true that would be.

Despite his struggles, he was always striving to be better, and staying protective and devoted to his family, his friends and his goals, and he would want us to do the same. Never did this big old bear have any intentions of harming anyone including the two officers that took his life on that fateful Sunday morning.

Justice for Mohammad!!!
